And with the 2022 model year rapidly approaching, the all-new Mk8 Golf line has some great things in store. Today, we'll be looking at the 2022 Golf R, returning for the first time since the 2019 model. And we'll start our Golf R coverage with the question on everyone's mind:
How fast is the 2022 Volkswagen Golf R?
Top Speed and Acceleration
The 2022 Volkswagen Golf R is part of the new generation of Mk8 Golf models. Thanks to an improved powertrain, it can do 0-100 km/h (about 0-62 mph) in 4.7 seconds and has a top speed of 155 mph. For comparison, the compact 2021 Audi A4 S-Line sedan does 0-60 mph in 4.8 seconds.
Powertrain Specs
As we mentioned in the paragraph above, the 2022 Golf R features an improved powertrain. Specifically, the 2022 Golf R got a power boost. Under the hood, there's a 2.0L turbo-charged four-cylinder cranking out 315 horsepower and 310 lb-ft. Compared to last model, the 2019 Golf R, that's an improvement of 27 horsepower and 30 lb-ft of torque. As with the 2021 Golf GTI and the 2021 Jetta GLI, the 2022 Golf R will come standard with a six-speed manual and have an available seven-speed dual-clutch automatic option.
